Morning Mantra & Yoga Practice
morning mantra intention
Protection
We use this mantra for protection of the heart chakra. Physical standing postures (yoga) and hand gestures or positions (mudras) are used to influence the flow of energy (prana) in the body and mind and invoke the protective energy of the universe.
areas of focus
North, South, East, West
At Grail Springs, we perform the Morning Mantra facing each of the 4 cardinal directions: North (Humility), South (Reverence), East (Gratitude) and West (Grace). Each time you face a new direction, attempt to embody the essence of the corresponding word. Fill your heart and mind with the wholeness of their meaning; first gratitude, humility, grace, and then ending with reverence.
Morning Mantra: Aad Guray
‘Aad Guray’ Translation (with appreciation to Deva Premal and Miten for granting permission to use Aad Guray for this film):
Aad Guray Namay
(I bow to the Primal Guru)
Jugaad Guray Namay
(I bow to the Guru woven throughout time)
Sat Guray Namay
(I bow to the True Guru, the true identity of the Self)
Siri Guru Devay Namay
(I bow to the great Guru whose Great Glory will always be)
Morning Mantra Sequence
These are the steps for each Mudra / Yoga pose
It is our tradition at Grail Springs to play ‘Aad Guray’ (I bow to the Primal Wisdom) by Diva Premal and Miten, one of the most moving and soul inspiring compositions ever recorded. This mantra comes from the sacred writings of the Sanskrit.
Mountain Pose
Facing east, start by standing straight, legs together, and arms by your side.
Stretch and raise your arms out and up to the heavens and hold.
Bow Pose
Lower arms down, shoulder height, at either side.
Then leaning forward, into a squat (knees bent, weight back on heels, toes up), join hands together stretched out in front of bowed head
Repeat number 1 & 2 twice.
Tree Pose
Straighten up and now standing tall, move into a balancing pose or tree pose.
Follow this by moving slowly onto one leg, knee up, shoulders back, hold, and then lower it, standing tall again.
Prayer Pose
Complete this set by bringing hands together in a prayer pose. Bow and let your final thoughts or invocation go.
Then turn and move facing the next direction.
Repeat this routine each direction starting with east and finishing with south.

Practice at Grail Springs
Morning yoga classes are complimentary with The Foundation Retreat & Enhanced Bundles ~ beginners to intermediate, all ages welcome. Please bring your own personal yoga mat.
Yin Yoga
This class will provide an emphasis on breath-work and deep stretches for relaxation of the nervous system. Through a passive and relaxed style of yoga, the goal is to assist with the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. The class progresses to a state of deeper mental quietude.
Gentle Yoga for Relaxation
We start off our time together sharing the beautiful Grail Mantra (view on Youtube) flow, then gently explore poses and breath practices that help connect us to our precious bodies with an accepting, welcoming attitude. While guests are encouraged and guided to approach the entire session as a meditation, we bring each class to a close with time for stillness and deep rest.
Gentle Hatha & Restorative Yoga
‘Hatha’ is a classical and most widely practiced form of yoga that is a mixture of standing, seated and floor exercises facilitating mind, body and spirit connection. In this class we will invite gentle movement to every part of our bodies bringing mobility to our spine. We will begin the class with chakra activation meditation, followed by gentle yoga poses, beautiful Grail Mantra and end with deeply restorative yoga poses on the floor using pillows and blankets. This class will inspire and awaken an attitude of calmness, playfulness, and self-love.
Kundalini Yoga
‘Kundalini’ Yoga is a form of yoga that involves breathing exercises, mantras, and poses designed to activate your Kundalini energy or ‘Shakti’ at the base of your spine. As we gently awaken this energy we enhance our awareness of self and our environment. This practice is also called ‘yoga of awareness’.
Qi-Yoga Flow
‘Qi’ or the ‘Prana’ is a vital energy force that runs through our bodies and all around the natural environment. This Qigong infused gentle yoga flow helps participants sense, move and re-vitalize their energy through connection with breath and slow flowing movements. We begin the class with grounding meditation and beautiful Grail Mantra, followed by various interconnected poses suitable for all body types and experience levels; and finalize our class with peaceful stillness.
